Tigers Impressive In Southwest Elite 7-on-7 Showcase

The 3A Charleston Tigers, one of the smallest classifications in the state’s largest 7-on-7 tournament, put on quite an impressive performance going 6-1 in pool play, finishing eighth out of 32 teams.

The Tigers defeated Shiloh Christian 16-14; East St. Louis 17- 16: McAlester 20-10; Victory Christian 26-17; Bentonville 29-28 and Springdale 33-15. They lost to eventual finalist Derby Kansas.

The Southwest Elite 7-on-7 Showcase consisted of 32 teams from 10 different states, Alabama, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas as well as 11 teams from Arkansas.

The Southwest Elite 7 on 7 Tournament boasts some of the best teams and players in the nation. “You won’t see competition like this anywhere else,” Charleston Junior QB Ty Storey said.

This event has quickly grown from 12 teams in 2009 to its current 32 team format. Arkansas teams have won 3 out of the 4 years. Each of the defending champions was in this year’s field: 2009 Shiloh Christian; 2010 Olive Branch (MS); 2011 Bentonville (AR) and 2012 Fayetteville (AR).
