Ronald Lee Smithson, 74, of Lavaca, AR, died Monday, April 14, 2014 in Fort Smith, AR. He was born November 21, 1939 in Saticoy, CA, to Carl Smithson and Hattie Louise Boyd Smithson. He was a member of Lavaca First Baptist Church. He moved to Carrollton, Texas in 1960. He was a milkman for a short period of time and after leaving his job as a milkman, decided to get into law enforcement and joined the Carrollton Police Department where he was a police officer for nine years. He then moved on from being a police officer to working for Phillip 66 Oil Company. After that he got into the full service car wash business where he was the owner and operator. After retiring and selling his business he moved to Lavaca where he then became Chief of Police for the city of Lavaca for a number of years. He left that job and went to work at Baldor Electric in Fort Smith where he worked for over 20 years, after which he retired to be home and enjoy retirement with his wife Patsy. They spent lots of time, camping, cooking and enjoying time with family. He was preceded in death by his wife Patsy Lou Smithson, his father Carl, sister Louise Gentry and brother G.C.
Service was held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Lavaca First Baptist Church with interment at Lavaca City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his mother Hattie Smithson Stem, one daughter Ramona Leah Hale and husband Clay, one son Ronald Lee Smithson, Jr., two sisters Velma and Linda Whitley, four brothers, Carl D. (Buddy), Kenneth R., Richard L. and Roger D. Two Granddaughters Samara Bailey and Hunter Smithson and one great granddaughter Alice Bailey.
Pall Bearers were Bobby Crabtree, Harry Torres, Mark Smithson, Tim Smithson, Kenny Smithson , Matt Smithson, Scotty and Darren Smithson.
