Edward Santos, who resided in Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014 in Fort Smith. He was born January 5, 1932 in Bluefields, Nicaragua to the late Pedro Santos and Filomena (Castillo) Santos. He was 82 years old. He was also preceded in death by his son, Kevin Edward Santos; three sisters and two brothers.
Edward was a retired clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Fort Smith. He was also a 20 year retired U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran and he was an avid gardener.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 24th, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with the Rev. Herschel McClurkin officiating. Burial will be at Island Cemetery, with “Full Military Honors”, located east of Lavaca, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Meladine “Mel” (House) Santos; two daughters, Karen Santos and her companion Jennifer Martin of Berwyn Heights, Maryland and Katrina Santos of Fort Smith; one daughter-in-law, Sarah Santos of Fayetteville; four granddaughters, Leah Santos, Marley Mustard, Casey Freeman, and Grace Santos.
Pallbearers were Alan Bearden, David Smith, Jr., Joshua Smith, Andrew Donovan, Tom Brock, and Pete Grant.
Honorary pallbearers were Orville Williams, Jim Rowe, David Smith, Sr., Johnny Hobbs and Kenny Hobbs
