Alvena Gramlich McDonald, 94, of Charleston, AR, passed away, Thursday, January 23, 2014 in Charleston. She was born August 23, 1919 in Vesta, AR to Rudolph Gramlich and Christine Smith Gramlich. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, The Mother’s Society, Catholic Women’s Union, Vesta EH Club, Charleston Garden Club and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband Orville McDonald, two sisters, Pauline Burkhard and Catherine Rogers and one brother, J. V. Gramlich.
Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston. Rosary was said at 6:00 p.m. Friday evening at Smith Mortuary with visitation following.
She is survived by one daughter Ginger Abernathy and husband Jim, of Memphis two sons Jerry and wife Judy and William and wife Donna, of Charleston, seven grandchildren, Rusty McDonald and wife Jennifer of Charleston, Joel McDonald and wife Deidra of Charleston, Susan Abernathy Mekeel and husband, David of Memphis, Carol Abernathy Buckley and husband Sean, of Vientiane, Laos, Brad Abernathy and wife Christen of Memphis, Mason McDonald of Fayetteville, Hayden McDonald and wife Anna of Charleston, and eight great grandchildren, Jeremy, Andy, Ryan, Shaun and Colton McDonald, Willa and Waylon Buckley and Riley Abernathy and two on the way, Sam Abernathy and Sophia McDonald.
Pall Bearers were Kevin Verkamp, Charles Miesner, Raymond Gramlich, Bobby Bishop; Mick Webber, Paul Carr and Charles Burkhard.
