Vesta EHC Meets

Vesta EHC Meets

By Ruth Cearley

The Vesta Extension Homemakers Club met May 6th, 2014 for the regular meeting. The early quilters had finished the first pot of coffee when the meeting began at 10:30.

Ben D.’s quilt had come off the frame and Lenora Chastain’s quilt went up. The other quilt has Sharon Pott’s purple quilt. We have had 6 or 7 quilters come on Tuesdays for the last month and the quilting has gone much faster. Won’t you join us, even for a few hours on Tuesday?

Lenora had the devotion written by Anita Corrine Donihue, entitled ‘In All Things’.

In the absence of Sue Schmitt, there were no previous minutes or Treasurer’s report. Hope she will soon be well again. Maybe with much rain, her allergy will get better.

The Roll Call was answered with ‘What was your Mother’s favorite flower or song?’ The answers were Roses or Iris. They would have loved to visit Diane’s Iris farm. Our trip which we had scheduled for Friday, the 9th was cancelled due to the heavy rains.

The thought of the month was given by Deborah Cearley. “There is a time for helping and giving and there’s a time for slowing down and pulling back.”

Mary Powell shared this poem and we would like to share it with the readers, too. It was written by Lynn Cassterns.

ROSES FOR MAMA

Lord, are there roses in your garden on the shores of jubilee?

Would you pick a dozen of your best and deliver them for me?

For you see, today is Mother’s Day and I can’t visit my mom.

For it wasn’t very long ago the angels came and took her home.

So, if there are roses in your garden on the shores of jubilee,

Would you pick a dozen of your best and deliver them for me?

Would you take them to my mother and tell her that I love her.

Tell her that I miss her in oh, So many ways.

But I have joy in knowing we’ll meet again someday.

We’ll pick roses together on the shores of jubilee.

The helpful hint was given by Zelma Whitley. She says, “The best way to keep herbs fresh is to stick the stems down in a glass of water, cover the leafy part loosely with a plastic bag, and store in the fridge.”

Mavon Grissom had the Slick Trick. ‘Soak your toes in Listerine mouthwash to get rid of toe nail fungus.’

We discussed the up coming Spring Gathering which Vesta will host on June 30th. May our next Spring Gathering we can host in the new Community Building. The Church of Christ is again sharing their Social Hall with us and we are so grateful for that.

At this gathering, we will be remembering the EHC members who have died in the last 5 years.

Our program for the month was ‘Recreation Month’ led by Ruth.

Instead of a Potluck, the group went to Kat’s Kitchen and had lunch.

Our next meeting date is Tuesday, June 3 at 10:30. This is a Pot Luck Meal. We invite you to join us and we also invite anyone to quilt with us. You don’t have to be a member.
