A PROCLAMATION DECLARING JUNE 14TH AS FLAG DAY WITHIN THE CITY OF CHARLESTON

A PROCLAMATION DECLARING JUNE 14TH AS FLAG DAY WITHIN THE CITY OF CHARLESTON

“There will be a gathering in front of the Charleston City Offices on Saturday, June 14 at 10am to raise the flag and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.”

To commemorate the adoption of our flag, the Congress approved on August 3, 1949 the designation of June 14 of each year as “Flag Day” and request that proclamations be issued for its observance and for the display of the flag of the United States,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, SHERMAN HIATT, Mayor of the City of Charleston, do hereby proclaim June 14, 2014 as Flag Day and the week beginning June 9, 2014 as Flag Week within the City of Charleston. I request businesses and residents to display the flag during that week, and I urge all citizens of the City of Charleston to observe Flag Day and National Flag Week. I also request the people of the City of Charleston to honor America and to publicly recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag acknowledging that we are “one nation under God” and to thus acknowledge our unity.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of June, 2014.
