Michele Schmitz Announces for Charleston School Board
Michele Schmitz is announcing her intention to run as a candidate for the Charleston School Board of Directors in the upcoming September 2014 election. She is currently serving as a member of the school board and is seeking re-election for a third term. Michele is a 1985 graduate from Charleston High School and attended the University of Arkansas earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work. Her work experience includes being a medical social services coordinator/discharge planner, hospice social worker and involvement with Schmitz Family Practice Clinic. Michele is married to Dr. James Schmitz, also a Charleston High School graduate. They have five children attending Charleston Public Schools: Anna Beth, Alex and Rebekah - 12th grade; Sarah – 10th grade; and Jared - 4th grade. They also have a son, Matthew, who attends the University of Central Arkansas.
Michele stated, “Serving as a member of the school board has been a very rewarding experience. It has given me much insight to the many challenges the school system has to face in regard to academic standards, technology growth, facility improvements and the financial management of the District.”
The Charleston School District’s mission is “To foster a safe and drug-free learning environment with love, encouragement and inspiration. The district is committed to develop educational programs with emphasis in literacy, math, science and technology.” Michele stated, “By serving as a member of the Board of Directors, I have been given the opportunity to be a part of the Districts Mission, and I desire to continue to be an active part of the school districts future.”
