MediSav Pharmacists, Courtney Houston and Lacey Parker represented MediSav during the 132nd Arkansas Pharmacist Association Annual Convention, “Dispensing Knowledge for Better Health,” that was held in Little Rock June 12-14. Nearly 300 pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and vendors participated in the event.
Your local pharmacists at MediSav Pharmacy work to keep on top of today’s ever changing medical scene, Courtney said. “Each year we attend numerous classes and training exercises. We are continuously learning to provide our patients with the most up to date information on their medications and healthcare.”
We covered a lot of information in regards to operating a pharmacy, marketing, and new medications that have been introduced to healthcare, Lacey said. “We also covered information on healthcare reform and the new prescription monitoring program (PMP).”
An ongoing goal we share with pharmacists across the state and across the nation is to keep prescription drugs off the street, Lacey said. MediSav participates in the PMP in conjunction with the DEA and Arkansas Department of Health as well as physicians in our town and across the state. In this program we are able to identify potential problems in dispensing controlled drugs such as hydrocodone and oxycodone and do our part to eliminate some of these problems, Courtney said. “It is MediSav’s goal to help our community be a solution to the drug problems we face.”
