Charleston High School 2014 Honor Graduates
Delaney Wells, Austin Gattis, Logan Verkamp, Hannah Hayes and Brittany Womack were named the top five graduates of the 2014 Charleston graduating class. All five gave speeches during graduation ceremonies that were held at 7 p.m. on Friday night, May 16th, 2014 at the Charleston High School Gymnasium.
Delaney is the daughter of Mitchell and Jill Wells.
She will attend Hendrix and major in English and minor in Education. She was a member of Band- 1st Chair Flute, Vice President of FBLA, Vice President of Beta Club, Vice President of Key Club, and First United Methodist Church of Charleston Youth Group. She received a Hendrix Academic Scholarship for $80,000; Hendrix Odyssey Honors and Distinguish Scholarship for $20,000; Hendrix Vocal Music Scholarship for $8,000; Arkansas Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship for $40,000 and Hendrix Scholarship for Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship for $40,000.
Austin is the son of James and Jammie Gattis.
He will attend the University of Arkansas and major in Bio-Medical Engineering. He was a member of FBLA- President; Beta – Treasurer; Key Club – Treasurer/Secretary and Band. He received a Chancellor’s Scholarship for $32,000 and Arkansas Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship for $40,000.
Logan is the son of John and Darla Verkamp.
He will attend University of Arkansas – Fort Smith and major in Biology. He was in Beta, FBLA, FCA and Golf. He received the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Academic Distinction Scholarship for $26,000 and Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship for $14,000.
Hannah is the daughter of Jeff and Susan Hayes.
She will attend University of Arkansas – Fort Smith and major in Nursing. She was a member of FBLA, Class Secretary, Beta Club and Student Council. She received the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Honors International Studies Program Scholarship for $33,000 and Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship for $14,000.
Brittany Womack is the daughter of Brian and Rita Womack.
She will attend the University of Central Arkansas and major in Occupational Therapy. She was in FBLA, Class Treasurer, Spanish Club – Vice President; Beta Club and Student Council. She received a University of Central Arkansas Excellence Scholarship for $26,000, Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship for $14,000 and Baldor Scholarship for $3,000.
