Charleston City Council Meeting Minutes April 3, 2014

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

NFPA compliance for fire apparel was researched. The council discussed the matter of findings. After discussion, Jim Sargent made motion to purchase (6) six sets of fire apparel. David Rice seconded the motion. Motion carried 5-0.

Two area residents were present to express health and safety concerns for a neighboring house and property on Edwards Street. John Verkamp reported that action was taken upon the owner of the property. Fines and restitution were paid to the city and Mr. Verkamp will send more letters to the owner and report back about this matter.

George Talkington discussed issues of safety and standards about trash pickup. He will research and suggest recommendations to John Verkamp, then submit to the council for further actions.

Police Report- Billy Atchley presented his monthly report to the council.

Project Coordinator- Tonya presented her monthly report. She and George met with FEMA to finalize the reimbursement amount for the ice storm. The city should be receiving approximately $27,000.00.

She also discussed Project Zero (Adoption Awareness –Foster Parents). They have asked the rental fee be waived for the community center for their project. Jim Sargent made motion to waive the rental fee for the community center. Ronnie Roper seconded the motion. Motion carried 5-0.

George Talkington presented his monthly report to the council. All invoices for the previous month of City General and Water/Sewer Operation & Maintenance and W/S Revenue accounts were presented to the council for review and discussion. After review, all paid invoices were approved. Upon review of the water adjustments for the month, the adjustments were accepted.
