Charleston Band Has Successful Year

The 2013-2014 school year has been a successful one for the Charleston band program. This January, three students earned chairs in the prestigious Region VIII All-Region concert bands. (All Region Students: Delaney Wells - senior - flute, John Weeks - senior - bass clarinet, Colton Ketter - freshman - trumpet). The students participated in a two-day honor band clinic culminating in a concert at the ABF Performing Arts Center in Fort Smith.

On March 15th, the middle school and high school bands performed in the Region VIII Concert Assessment at the Alma Performing Arts Center. The Charleston Middle School Band, under the direction of Jessica Holt, earned superior ratings from all four judges. The Charleston High School Band, directed by Eric Durham, earned straight superior ratings for the fifth year in a row.

Five students earned places in the Arkansas All-Star Band by audition and participated in a two-day honor band clinic and concert in Atkins in April. (All-Star L to R: Brookelynn Hughes - trumpet, Julia Sexton - trumpet, Delaney Wells - flute, Jason Moriarity - trumpet, and John Weeks - bass clarinet.)
