A Belle for a bell, both still ringing true 78 years later

Mary Belle Ervin rings a former Charleston School bell that has been installed in front of the Belle Museum. The bell was originally located in the second story of the Charleston elementary/high school building that was built in 1909 which was located where the Charleston Middle School is now located. Mrs. Ervin had rung the bell when she was in the first grade in that building 78 years ago. The second story was removed in 1961 and sometime after that the bell ended up in Bella Vista before being returned to Charleston. The Belle Museum, located on the corner of Main and North Greenwood Streets in Charleston, will be open this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 6th, 7th, and 8th, and after the Sunday meeting. Several new exhibits will be shown giving area residents and visitors a chance to reminisce about the areas history.
