Annual Charleston Fishing Derby Set For May 17

The Annual Charleston Fishing Derby sponsored by the City of Charleston, along with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will be held Saturday, May 17 from 9:00am to 11:00am. The Derby will be held at the City’s Fishing Pond located behind the Charleston High School off Guy Fenter Drive.

The Derby is open to children ages 2 to 14. Age groups are 2-6, 7-10 and 11-14. Registration will be held the day of the Derby starting at 8:30am. “Goodie Bags” will be given to the first 75 children who register. Fishing will begin at 9:00am and last until 11:00am. Prizes will be awarded to the children in each age group who catch the most fish. After fishing and prizes, the children will be treated to hot dogs.

Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult. Also, participants must bring their own fishing gear, such as poles, stringers, and bait. Casting will be allowed, but will be closely monitored and must be done with extreme caution. Anyone deemed to be casting recklessly will not be allowed to continue fishing.
